Hearts, Hands & Heritage
Aundrea Matthews, a CERCL Research assistant and Rice Department of Religion graduate student organized this series of exhibits as a part of her dissertation to introduce visitors to a collection of powerful works of art that illuminate and touch on many levels, including the spiritual. CERCL continues the exhibits bi-annually to illustrate a broad range of artistic techniques and inspirations, shed light on the lives and experiences of quiltmakers, and examine the role quiltmakers have played in the arenas of education, politics, religion, the arts, business, the family and much more.

Quilting Together
This fourth bi-annual exhibition introduced visitors to a collection of powerful works of art and celebrate the talent of local artists. Our goal is to illustrate a broad range of artistic techniques and inspirations, shed light on the lives and experiences of quiltmakers, and examine more closely the diversity of the African diaspora.
The exhibit featured the works of the Aldine Area Quilt Guild, Blue Triangle Quilt Guild, Jubilee Quilt Circle and Nathaniel Donnett..
Divine Designs & Diversity of the African Diaspora
This exhibit celebrated the 30 year anniversary of The Collective and their recent additions to CERCL's Archive at the Woodson Research Center at Rice University's Fondren Library. The exhibit will introduce visitors to a collection of powerful works of art and celebrate the talent of local artists. Our goal is to illustrate a broad range of artistic techniques and inspirations, shed light on the lives and experiences of quiltmakers, and examine more closely the diversity of the African diaspora.
Community engagement events included an artist talk and a quilt making workshop by 3D quilt artist Carolyn Crump for local high school students.

This third quilting exhibit in the CERCL's Hearts, Hands & Heritage series, featured quilts from the Jubilee Quilt Circle, and was available for viewing October 23 through December 5, 2014 in collaboration with the Comunity Artists' Collective.
The exhibit was curated by Aundrea Matthews, PhD Candidate, Rice University and featured an artist talk by quilters, Leslie Abrams, Michelle Barnes, Carolyn Crump, Phyllis Harris, Hastle Murray, Phyllis Simpson and Pam Tilley.
The Patchwork Soul of Women
The quilts for this exhibit were selected by a "peoples choice" online competition. The Skin Quilt Project documentary was continuously screened as part of the exhibit which was open to the public at the Rice Media Center from October 21 through November 19, 2010.
A Reception, Panel Discussion and Awards Ceremony for the "Peoples Choice" winners took place November 5, 2010. Panelists included Marcia Brennan, Associate Professor of Art History, Rice University; Lauren Cross, doctoral student in Women's Studies at Texas Woman's University and director of theSkin Quilt Project Documentary; Jill Rimes, founder of SunFlower Quilts; and Bob Ruggiero, Director of Publications and Public Information for Quilts, Inc.

The Patchwork Soul of Houston
This inaugural quilting exhibit, featured the Blue Triangle Quilting Guild, (photo on right) and was available for viewing October 8 through November 6, 2009 at the Rice Media Center.
A corresponding panel discussion included Michelle Barnes, Executive Director, Community Artists’ Collective, Bob Ruggiero, Director of Publications and Public Information, International Quilt Festival, Dr. Tracy L. Vaughn, Distinguished Senior Lecturer and Assistant Director of Graduate Studies, Department of African American Studies, Northwestern University, Auian Ward, Quilt Practitioner and Member of the Blue Triangle Quilt Guild, and Jerona Williams, Founder and President of the Blue Triangle Quilt Guild.
