About the Event
Can our society exist without police and policing? As we continue to reflect on the violent effects of systemic racism and police brutality, which gained mainstream attention after continued protests in support of Black Lives Matter this past summer, it is important to acknowledge the history of police in the U.S. and understand the context for calls to “Defund the Police.” This panel aims to explain what abolition entails and call attention to the current work being done within and around Rice in support of the police abolition movement.
